![]() You don't have to play them, but since this is your first time with the series you might as well start with what defined it.įor ClassicVania games, I'd recommend Rondo of Blood (harder to find, Dracula X Chronicles on the PSP is probably your best bet), Castlevaniaand Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (both on the NES, the first is on the NES classic) and Bloodlines (Genesis, really tough to find but my personal favorite), those are pretty much the cream of the crop. I recommend giving both a try, but starting with the "Classic" series will give you a better understanding of what the series is best known for low mobility platforming, high difficulty, gothic / horror atmosphere and kick ass music. SCIV will give you a solid grasp of the series without the higher difficulty that can turn people off, and it's pretty readily available (including on the SNES Classic).įrom there, you have two different types of Castlevania to pick from the "ClassicVania" games (linear 2-D platformers) and the "Metroidvania" games (which I'm sure you're familiar with). ![]()
